Her father was an accomplished artist, who encouraged her to draw and paint from an early age and whose paintings inspired her. Studying art at school to Higher level and as a Special Study at college, she continued to paint, while pursuing a career in teaching. Her paintings, in the main, show her response to the rugged coastline and open spaces of the North of Scotland, where layered colours blend and shape the composition, in an attempt to capture light and atmosphere. Acrylics are presently used ,their quick drying qualities allowing for the speed at which Jane paints.
